At Home Files for Bankruptcy, Some New Jersey Stores Closing

Sign of a retail store closure

At Home, a major home decor and furniture retailer, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and announced the closure of 26 stores nationwide, including three New Jersey locations.

The affected New Jersey stores are located in Middletown (1361 NJ-35), Ledgewood (461 NJ-10 East, Unit A500), and Princeton (301 Nassau Park Blvd.). All three locations are expected to close by September 30, 2025, as part of the company’s restructuring efforts.

The closures represent three of the eight At Home stores currently operating in New Jersey. The remaining five locations in Wayne, Ocean Township, Brick Township, Cherry Hill, and Turnersville will remain open for now, though additional closures could be announced depending on the company’s ongoing financial restructuring.

At Home attributed the closures to a challenging commercial environment marked by increased tariffs, rising interest rates, persistent inflation, and reduced consumer spending. The company joins a growing list of major retailers announcing store closures and restructurings amid difficult economic conditions.

As part of the bankruptcy agreement, ownership of At Home will be transferred to a group of hedge funds and other firms based in New York City and San Francisco. The retailer cited broader economic pressures and retail-specific challenges as primary factors behind the financial difficulties.
