The Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center, New Jersey’s first and only freestanding, fully comprehensive cancer hospital, officially opened in New Brunswick in May 2025. This landmark facility represents a groundbreaking collaboration between RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute, the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The impressive 12-story, 520,000-square-foot center connects directly to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers Cancer Institute via a skybridge. It brings together comprehensive cancer services including 96 inpatient beds, a dedicated surgical floor, 88 infusion bays, and 80 exam rooms. The facility also features a Jersey Shore–themed pediatric space and state-of-the-art laboratories supporting 10 research teams.
Designed with patients in mind, the center offers innovative clinical trials, cellular therapies, and sophisticated radiation techniques. Healing amenities include massage therapy, exercise facilities, a wellness garden, and artwork by local artists.
This opening marks a historic milestone for New Jersey, expanding access to world-class cancer care within the state. Patients no longer need to travel out of state for comprehensive inpatient cancer services. The center is named in recognition of Jack and Sheryl Morris, longstanding supporters of community development in New Brunswick.
With its combination of advanced care and research capabilities, this new facility stands as one of just 13 freestanding cancer hospitals in the United States.
